A wonderfully tangy, herby and easy to use Middle Eastern spice blend. The sumac we use comes by Iran. Sumac is a small flowering tree native to Iran that grows wild in Western Asia, the Arabian peninsula, and most of the Mediterranean. There are many species of sumac, but Rhus coriaria is the species that produces our beloved spice. The name sumac means “red” in medieval French, Latin, and Syrian languages
